Born James F. Galvin in St. Louis' Irish neighborhood, "Pud,," or Jimmy, was one of the finest right-handed pitchers of the 19th Century. In 14 major league seasons, Galvin won 361 games and lost 308. With the Buffalo Bisons of the National League, Galvin won 46 games in 1883 and 1884. In 1885, Galvin moved to Pittsburgh where he played with that city's National League and Players League teams until 1892.
